Bicycles

Beijing is synonymous with bicycle riding. The bike lane in this city is as wide as the car lane and can be found on almost every major avenue. There are bicycles everywhere you go. Zipping by you as you walk down the street, trring trring trringing their bells. Parked in neat rows, or thrown into piles one on top of another left alone to rust under a thick blanket of yellow-grey dust. The bicycles keep the city in constant motion and as soon as we got here, we followed suit...

Beijing es sinónimo de andar en bicicleta. El carril bici en esta ciudad es tan amplio como el carril de coche y se puede encontrar en casi todas las vías principales. Hay bicicletas por todos los lados vayas donde vayas, pasando rapido por tu lado trring trring trringeando sus campanas, aparcadas en filas ordenadas, o arrojadas en montones unas encimas de otras dejadas tiradas para oxidarse bajo una espesa capa de polvo amarillo-gris. Las bicicletas mantienen la ciudad en un movimiento constante y nada mas que llegar, nos sumamos al follón...

Migas avec Eltono

In the beginning of October Xavier (aka Eltono) began his first project here in China. He was commissioned to paint the entrance to a popular Spanish restaurant in Beijing called Migas. Leaving Spain was really hard for both of us and every time we enter this restaurant we feel like we are back in Madrid. What a pleasure it was to meet and make friends with such wonderful people. They have an amazing roof deck, the staff is helpful and friendly and the food is FANTASTIC!! Viva Jordi!! It's no surprise that it has become a mecca for Spaniards who live in or are visiting Beijing. Much love to Mai, Eduardo, Nacho, Marula, Rez, Jorge and all the wonderful people we have met there over the past 2 months. It's one of our favorite spots in Beijing for sure!!

A principios de octubre Tono inició su primer proyecto aqui en China. Ha sido encargado de pintar la entrada de un restaurante Español muy popular aqui en Beijing que se llama Migas. Irnos de España fue difícil para los dos y cada vez que entramos en este lugar nos sentimos como que estamos en casa. Tienen una terraza en la azotea increíble, el personal es atento y amable y la comida es BUENISIMA! Viva Jordi!! No es ninguna sorpresa que se ha convertido en una meca para los Españoles que viven en o que están visitando Beijing. Mucho amor para Mai, Eduardo, Nacho, Marula, Rez, Jordi, Jorge y toda la gente maravillosa que hemos conocido allí en los últimos 2 meses. Es uno de nuestros sitios preferidos en Beijing!!

A Sunny Day at the Summer Palace

My friend and colleague Benjamin had one wish for his birthday, to board a worthy vessel... Returning to the beautiful Summer Palace, we rented a boat and set out like proper able-bodied seamen (and woman). Beer and songs included. Look how happy he was!!

Here I am in Beijing. I have been here two months, and I have finally started my blog!! I hope this will help bring us closer and allow me to share my adventures with you. Enjoy!!

Aqui estoy en Beijing. Ya llevo dos meses y por fin empezé mi blog!! Quiero compartir mis experiencias con vosotros y mantener el contacto para que veáis mis aventuras por el Oriente. Espero que os guste!!

September Adventures

September was a crazy month!! New apartment, new neighbors, new neighborhood, new workmates, new students, new supermarket, new fruit woman, new garbage man (on a bicycle!) and of course... all of this in a new language!!

Septiembre fue una locura!! Nuevo apartamento, nuevos vecinos, nuevo barrio, nuevos compañeros del trabajo, nuevos alumnos, nuevo supermercado, nuevo frutera y nuevo basurero (con bici!) y por supesto... todo esto en un nuevo idioma!!




Determined, we set out to explore our new home. The first place we visited was Yi He Yuan... the Summer Palace. Even though it was a cloudy day, it was AMAZING!!

Decididos, salimos a explorar nuestro nuevo hogar. El primer citio que visitamos fue Yi He Yuan ... el Palacio de Verano. A pesar de que era un día nublado, fue increíble!












Over the next couple of days we squished into the subway, hopped on the bus and wandered around the city making the best of the great weather. Before going to Gùgōng, The Forbidden City, we visited Jingshang park... a man-made hill just to the north where you can look out over the ancient palace and also see the rest of the city.

Durante los siguientes días nos aplastamos en el metro, montamos en el autobús y caminamos por la ciudad disfrutando del buen tiempo. Antes de ir a Gugong, la Ciudad Prohibida, visitamos Jingshang parque... una colina hecha por el hombre justo al norte, donde se puede contemplar el antiguo palacio y también ver el resto de la ciudad.







Beijing is very flat. Great for bicycles!! :)

We ended this lovely day at the Donghuamen Night Market, where there are many tasty treats... Mmmmmmmmmm...

Terminamos este día tan hermoso en el Mercado Nocturno Donghuamen, donde hay muchas cosas deliciosas para comer... Mmmmmmmmmm...
